Content Generator Multiple Choice generator:  The Multiple Choice generator can be downloaded via the ContentGenerator.net forum. It is freely available for any not-for-profit use. Free registration required.
This program allows anyone to generate their own Flash-based multiple-choice quizzes. The use of Flash means that the quizzes can be used on any webpage, learning environment, intranet or just a single computer.This software has been created to provide teachers with a really simple way of creating engaging online exercises


Mental Maths: A great program for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division drills. Presented in an attractive format with a choice of games and other settings. A percentage score is given at the end.
At present MathsNet Mental Tests is available in Windows version only. The download file is zipped  

World Geography Tutor
With World Geography Tutor's interactive map technology, pupils can learn the nations of the world, plus the states of the USA, and much more. There are 3 modes in the game: Find Countries, Identify Countries and Explore. There is a 15 day trial period with an option to purchase for $15.  


www.vanbasco.com is a free downloadable karaoke player. It will display the lyrics on the desktop. Tempo, volume and key can also be adjusted.  Further songs can be downloaded from www.freekaraoke.com  


Every thing contained on the Hot Potatoe site is complete free. www.hotpot.uvic.ca/  The Hot Potatoes suite includes six applications, enabling you to create interactive multiple-choice, short-answer, jumbled-sentence, crossword, matching/ordering and gap-fill exercises for the World Wide Web.

Hot Potatoes is free of charge for those working for publicly-funded non-profit-making educational institutions, who make their pages available on the web. Other users must pay for a licence. In other words, this suite can be described as freeware when used by teachers for educational purposes.


Picasa (developed by Google), an image editing program, is another example of a freeware program, in that it is totally free to download and use, with no restrictions. It can be downloaded from www.picasa.google.com/download/index.html


Another image editing program, Irfanview, is free to download and use for non-commercial use, and it can be acquired by visiting www.irfanview.com
