10 Sligo Schools launch their School Websites. Sligo Schools are leading the way in technology. Over the last few months students and teachers in 10 Sligo schools took on the roles of web masters, photo editors and new editors to create dynamic websites as part of a national software programme sponsored by the National Centre for Technology in Education (NCTE). To mark their success Sligo Education Centre on the 25th Oct 2006 hosted the launch of the 10 School websites. Cllr Tom McSharry presented the four post primary and six primary schools with a certificate to mark their achievement in creating a well designed and informative school website. Aideen O Shaughnessy, ICT Advisor in the Education Centre congratulated the schools and said “these school websites reflect of the work and energy of the pupils and teachers” and she hopes other schools will be inspired by their achievement. Our lady of Mercy P.S. received an additional award “Star Site of the Week” from the NCTE. The Star Site concept was devised to give recognition to schools whose websites are a little beyond the norm. Clear navigation, examples of pupils' work, school policies, and up-to-date content are some of the features that distinguish star sites. This site will now feature on www.scoilnet.ie/schoolsonline as the selected site of the week.
