Bayside Junior National School Software Use

Software Use in Bayside Junior School

ICT forms an integral part of our school curriculum.  Each week, every class is timetabled for two class periods in the computer room and two class periods with laptops in the classroom.  As you can imagine, we use a wide range of software at a variety of levels every week.  We use our data projectors on a regular basis, both in the classroom and in the computer room.  Computer activities range from individual tasks to group work and are enjoyed by pupils of all ages and abilities.

Pupils using software in Bayside Junior School

In particular, we have found the following software to be particularly useful

Textease

Level:
Used for:

All Classes
We use the word processing, paint and clipart features of this software. The pupils create illustrated stories using the multiple features of this package. This supports the pupils' development of writing and reading skills and encourages them to express themselves creatively both in art and in word. The stories are generally the collaborative effort of a pair working together and are proudly displayed on the walls of the computer room!

Tangrams

Level:
Used for:

All classes
This problem solving software is a firm favourite with most pupils from Junior Infants to Second Class. The package has four levels of difficulty which makes it suitable for pupils of different abilities.  It also includes an editing feature which allows pupils to create their own Tangrams.

Tizzy's Toy Box

Level:
Used for:

Infants
We find this software very useful for pre-number and pre-reading activities. The package is clear, colourful and easy to use.

Nature Part Mission Control

Level:
Used for:

First Class and Second Class
These adventure games are suitable for advanced first class and second class pupils. The packages provide a variety of interesting challenges testing the pupils’ logical thought processes in a stimulating and fun manner. The content of the software enables cross curricular development and is a powerful motivation for developing literacy skills.
