Graphic Imaging Editing Utilities Details Resources Version: 2.4.2 GIMP stands for GNU Image Manipulation Program is a free open source piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and authoring. It works on many operating systems, in many languages. It has many capabilities. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, an image format converter, etc. It is designed to be augmented with plug-ins and extensions to do just about anything. One little quirk of GIMP is that instead of your artwork, palettes and toolbars appearing within the application's main window, they each have their own separate windows. It takes a little bit of getting used to, but there's nothing that you can't do with the GIMP. A good example of open source development, but not as user-friendly as other programs.
