Sponsored Walk up Tully Hill.

It was a fantastic sight to see all pupils in the school head up Tully Hill on a short sponsored walk as part of our green school programme. We would like to thank the parents who helped marshall the walk ,the local garda and the scouts group who donated the high visability jackets to all children.A total of €1471 was raised on the day. Some pupils were inspired to write about the walk and we hope you enjoy reading a sample of their work.

Energy Saving Day

We left school today,
At eleven o'clock,
Up Tully Hill,
For a big long walk.

Before we left school,
They gave us jackets to wear,
So that drivers could see us,
And be completely aware.

When we were walking,
We walked in twos,
So we wouldn't be hit,
By drivers with no clue.

When we reached the top of the hill,
They took photos of us,
They said: pull no funny faces,
So there would be no fuss.
Over all,
It was a pretty good day,
We saved lots of energy,
Which pleased the green schools commit-a!

A waking talking sea of yellow

I walked into school yesterday morning,
All the radiators were burning,
The whiteboards blaring all day long,
The teachers yell "This can't go on!"
A note is sent home in my bag,
A way to get our green school flag.
A sponsored walk, please sponsor me,
To stop us using energy.

I walk up today, I look outside
I'm pretty sure the walk will subside
The grass is damp with morning dew
The rain hasn't missed its cue
But after morning work is done,
(and still without a spot of sun)
We line up against the wall,
A reflective jacket foor one and all.
Two by two in a crocodile,
At least we get out of school for a while!

But I don't think it will get any better
The weather is getting wetter.
A woman stops and she says hello
To the walking talking sea of yellow
Big kids chat in groups or huddles
Little kids jump in all the puddles
The teachers say "stop splashing and skiting
Now we're done our walk, wasn't that exciting"
No, not really, not at all.
We mumble as we line up against the wall
This walking thing was such a drag
All's we wanted was our green school flag

Just a walk.
We all went outside,
And put on our jackets so bright,
Which can be seen at any time,
Be it mid-day or mid-night.
We were about to go on a journey,
Up a steep, winding hill.
We were all quite excited,
Even though there was a slight chill.
There were horses and sheep around us;
I waved and said hello!
Besides me stopping to look for a while,
I was always on the go.
A meadow filled with flowers,
And a towering mountain so high.
Surely to call this scenery ugly,
Is a sin or a lie.
We reached the top and turned around,
We started on our way back down.
We passed all the people trailing in last,
Reminding them not to walk into town.
I to the gate of the school;
When I opened it, it clinked.
Then we took a nice photo.
Wait! I think I blinked!
I went to class, I opened my mathsbook,
Where all my hatreds lurk,
And instead of getting off English that night,
My teacher gave me this poem for homework!
