125 years of the GAA.
This year the GAA are celebrating their 125th anniversary and Friday the 29th of May 2009 was a very special one in our school. It was our officially GAA day and it was an action packed day enjoyed by all.We would like to thank Mary Power for co-ordinating all the events and for all those who helped on Friday including our regular coaches Charlie and Johnny, a team of former pupils who are all active in local GAA clubs and Phil and Michael members of our local coaching team from Oxfield. Thanks to our parents association we also had a circus skills workshop which provided us all with the opportunity to juggle, balance and above all have a lot of fun!!
On the day the children were encouraged to wear their GAA jerseys so there was a colourful array on display. The activities on the day included both indoor and outdoor hurling,no-man's land,skills,go-games,bats and balls and of course the circus skills. After lunch both the girls and boys team played Calry NS in the Cumann Na mbunscoil competition and despite the fact that both our teams lost on the day they were well supported! We are looking forward to the next GAA celebration!!
