Maths is Fun Week

On Monday to Wednesday, 11th - 13th February, the whole school was engaged in Maths is Fun Week. Every afternoon the classes moved between different Maths Activities.

There were nine maths activities in all.

  • Construction Activities
  • Dominoes
  • Card Games
  • Maths Activities involving play equipment in the Hall
  • Tangrams, Shape & Pattern
  • Maths Games on the Internet on 6th Class's Interactive Whiteboard
  • Board Games
  • Maths Trail
  • Dice Games

We were delighted that Sligo's Mayor, McGoldrick, could join us for some of the fun and games. A big thank you to all who helped on organising the week and especially to 5th & 6th classes who helped to run the afternoons.

Drumming Workshop

The first part of a drumming workshop took place on Tuesday 26th March in the school hall. Junior & Senior Infants, 1st and 2nd Classes & 5th Class each had an hour workshop with Peter Crann and his wide selection of drums. Great fun was had by all and apologies to near neighbours who had to put up with the noise. The second part with the remaining classes is scheduled for March 11th.

Tag Rugby

Our thanks go to Gavin Foley who has come in to school on a weekly basis working with all classes to introduce children to the sport of rugby. We have been able to use some of the new PE equipment and the children have had a great experience.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

3rd - 7th March is Irish Language Week - Seachtain na Gaeilge - where Irish is encouraged throughout the school. There will be an Assembly with contributions from all classes, a fashion show by 6th class in Irish - Taispeantais Faisean - and Frásaí Na Seachtaine will be spoken through out the school. World Book Day

The school is marking World Book Day on Tuesday 11th March. Pupils will be encouraged to bring in their favourite book and talk about their favourite author. Book vouchers to the value of €1.50 valid until the 30th March will be given to all pupils. Hopefully parents will be able to subsidise a book of their choice! There are usually special editions of books brought out for World Book Day that cost the same as the voucher - check it out your local book shop!
