School to Lose a Teacher
As a result of the government's decision not to honour its commitment to reduce class sizzes in the our primary schools, Rathcormac N.S. is faced with the prospect of losing one of its teachers when the next academic year begins in September.
After the general election last year the programme for government included a commitment to reduce the average class size each year over three years. However, in a letter to the Board of Management of Rathcormac NS the Department of Education and Science has stated that the post currently held by Mrs Margaret Broaders is to be suppressed with effect from August 31st. The result for us will be that in September the school wil have more pupils than at present with fewer teachers. As a result class sizes are set to increase not decrease next year.
We call on parents and friends of the school to lobby their political representatives to reverse this decision. For a full copy of Principal, Frank O'Sullivan's press release click HERE. For what you can do click HERE.

HAPPY ST PATRICK'S DAY!
Many thanks to the Parents' Association for supplying the Easter Eggs for the Easter Raffle. There were three egg prizes per class. At the Assembly 5th Class sang a song from their play "A Land Far Away" that told the story of St Patrick. In the week before St Patrick's Day they performed the play to all the classes and their parents.
Taispeántas Faisin
Bhí Taispeántas Faisin ag Rang a Sé i rith Seachtain na Gaeilge. Sa seó bhí eadaí spóirt, eadaí díoscó, eadaí codlata, eadaí féile agus eadaí bainis. Bhí an-spórt ag gach duine.
Hurling with Senior Infants
John Mullins, a Hurling Coach with Connaught Council, is coming into school to work with children from different classes to introduce them to Hurling as part of a GAA initiative. The children have had great fun and hopefully will get involved in the sport.
Great art around the school for Mothers' Day, St Patrick's Day and Easter.
Yoga in 1st Class
1st Class are very lucky in that their class teacher is a fully qualified Yoga coach. They have the opportunity of learning some yoga moves once a week in the hall. We will monitor if it helps with concentration in their work. Maybe this should be a new curriculum area!
