A recent trip to Hazelwood inspired some poetry in our sixth class pupils.Read them for yourself and reflect on the beauty of this famous location which inspired the famous poet WB Yeats to write.
I went out to the hazel wood,
Because a fire was in my head,
And cut and peeled a hazel wand,
And hooked a berry to a thread;
Our trip to Hazelwood
Todaywe were split into four,
We went to Hazelwood to learn some more,
About colourful leaves and tall trees,
This swished and swayed in the autumn breeze.
We gathered lots of information off our tour guide,
About types of trees and how some of them died,
Off we went around the winding paths,
It was so much better than doing maths.
We laugh, chatted and talked,
As we stumbled, skipped and walked,
On a beautiful Autumn day,
That will stay in my memory in a wonderful way.

Hazelwood
Walking through Hazelwood my
Imagination takes over
It cleans my eyes of leaves and mud And gives Hazelwood a makeover.
The oak,theash, the evergreen trees,
they are now pirate ships;
their amazing treasure is their fruit and their leaves. Their acorns pinecones and rosehips
We are the pirates plundering these ships
We fill our bags with acorns, pinecones and rosehips Our tour guide is the captain to him we are loyal He directs us to the harbour guarding us and our spoil.
Even as I daydream reality is pretty good.
I will always remember my trip to Hazelwood.

Hazelwood
There are trees in the forest,
Hazelwood
There are trees in the forest,
Some are tall and some are old,
They are home to birds and wildlife
As they stand so proud and bold.
When we went to Hazelwood;,
The guide told us lots,
The leaves and the trees,
The nuts and the seeds,
I hope we go again soon enough.
We ate our lunch in silence,
While the swan eyed our food,
We so
Some are tall and some are old,
They are home to birds and wildlife
As they stand so proud and bold.

Line up here,
Have no fear,
Hop in to the jeep,
All in a heap.
Out you go now,
Don’t ask me how,
Steady your feet for this walk,
And don’t let me hear you talk!
Oak, birch and horse-chestnut too,
I don’t know the difference, do you know who?
Pick up a leaf, fill the bag,
‘’You two, stop playing tag!
Sit down on a bench,
Munch your food,
Eye the swan that is eying you.
Back to school,
Oh no, Oh no,
Are you my friend or foe?
