Paired Reading Project

This term we are running a paired reading project in our school. The children from Senior Infants pair up with a buddy from 5th Class and read together for about 20 minutes in the Learning Support Classroom. The 5th Class children in keep a record of the books that the children read.

What? This term we are running a paired reading project. Pairs of children, one older one younger, read together for about twenty minutes

Who? All of the children in 5th class and all of the children in Senior Infants under the supervision of Margaret Broaders, the Learning Support Teacher.

When? Every Friday from 11.00am to 12.30pm for this term only.

Where? The Learning Support Room (That's where all the nice books are!)

Why? Paired reading has lots of benefits:
* It helps reading practice and fluency
* It helps self esteem for all partners
* It gets children from to know each other
* It makes reading fun

Congratulations!

Well done on completing this project, Easter 2007. All the pupils who took part received a certificate at an assembly and they produced an excellent display of their reading work together in the hall. Now 6th Class are paired reading with pupils in Senior Infants.
